You’re planning your vacation but want to know more about weather in Croatia? As locals, living here for more then 30 years, we will tell you what to expect.
Whether you prefer winter time or as most people, you come here during spring or summer. That being said, on average we have moderate winters and hot, dry summers.
During winter, temperature is not a big problem since the lowest it can get is -12°C or 10°F. Even then, it only gets this cold in January or February. The rest of the winter months temperature is between -2°C (28°F) and 12°C (53°F).
The real problem of weather in Croatia, at least during winter months, is the wind. It is a type of bone-chilling wind which makes it seem even cooler. Luckily, this ain’t that frequent nor that extreme.
Most people come to Croatia during summer to visit the coast and to enjoy on the beaches and islands of the Adriatic Sea. Although first hot days can come as early as May, usually during June the temperature goes up suddenly. It gets between 24°C and 30°C (75°F to 86°F)
July and August are the warmest months during which the temperature can reach up to 40°C (104°F) mid day. However, this is very rare. During September, the weather and temperature is similar as in June.
Although the summers are usually dry, there are some years when it rains every couple of days. However, in cases such as these, the rain comes suddenly and stops abruptly.
Post season includes April and May as well as October and November. If you don’t like the heat or the crowd and you want to explore Croatia at your own pace, this is the best time for you.
During this time of year, temperature is mostly between 12 °C and 24°C (53°F to 75°F) with occasional rain. Although the sea usually isn’t warm enough for swimming at this time of year, if you’re from Russia, Scandinavia or Canada, you will most likely find it warm enough.
That being said, most places such as National Parks and islands you have just for yourselves since there aren’t that many tourists.
Although we told you what to expect from weather in Croatia, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to plan ahead and check the forecast in advance. Especially, if you want to cruise around the islands and soak up the sun.
Afterall, weather is unpredictable and even with all the satellites, weather forecast isn’t always accurate. That being said, there are plenty of mobile apps at our fingertips which can make planning somewhat easier, at least.
As one of the best tools for this task, we recommend AccuWeather. Whether you prefer hot summer months, mild temperatures of spring and early fall or cold winter months, AccuWeather is one of the best tools for keeping your eye on the weather in Croatia.
